Last letter

Dear Burk,
This will be my last letter.  At least this time around.
Things are pretty much the same from day-to-day.  You got your blue cast off your right leg and now have two walking boots.  You take them off when you're in bed.  You're not supposed to.
You're generally much nicer, but can still be a complete punk.
Mom and Dad backed off on the 24 hour shifts.  Although then you admitted to mom that while everyone was out of the room you crawled down to your old room to look for "something".  I was sitting there while you told her.  She was mad.  You were matter of fact like it was no big deal.  And I just thought you were stupid for even telling her.  Why you admit crap that you know is going to make her upset is beyond me.  But that's kinda how you are.  You just don't care.
Physically you're just about better.  I think your left leg should be walking ready in a few weeks.  Everything is healing as it should.  Your head injury seems fine.  You're back to EXACTLY how you were before this all happened.
How someone gets plowed over by a car and nearly dies and seems to learn absolutely nothing is beyond me.  But that's the way it appears.  Frustrating.  That's really the only word to describe it.
I hope you use this as an opportunity to do more and be more.  I am 100% sure you could do amazing things in this life.  Amazing.  You could change peoples lives.  And generations of people.  You could do that.  If you wanted to.  If you chose to.  I know it.
The thing is, I could probably fix your life in about an hour.  Get you back on your feet.  Send you in a positive direction.  But it's not up to me.  It's up to you.  It's your life.  It's your choice.  Sometimes I wish we could take the choice away from you.  But we can't.  So we watch.  We wait.  We suffer with you.  And we wish for more.
And it all comes down to you.  You.

Here's to hoping this never, ever happens again.  Please quit walking on roads in the dark.  Please.
And when you get in a situation you don't like and come up with every excuse why you got there and how it's never seems to be your fault......remember you have a choice.

BE better.  Do better.  You can.  I promise.
